Kuchiki, Byakuya
Kuchiki ~ dead trees
Byakuya ~ midnight sun
Appearance:
[/li][li][/li][li][/li][li]
Hair Color && Length: Black Shoulder-length
Eye Color: Dark Purple
Byakuya Kuchiki stands at 180 centimeters (approx. 5'10'') tall, weighing 64 kilograms (approx. 141 lbs). He retains the appearance of a nobleman, of course, because he is one. Being the 28th and current head of the noble Kuchiki clan, he wears the white headpeace known as the kenseikan, and the white scarf made from the material called ginpaku kazahana no uzuginu. This scarf was made by the master weaver, Tsujishiro Kuroemon III and is handed down from generation to generation by each head. It is said that one could buy ten large houses with this scarf alone.
Byakuya wears the traditional shinigami clothing without any modifications aside from his royal attire and zanpakuto. He wears special silk glothes on both hands. Over the black robes is the special white taichou haori, which has no sleeves, revealing these common black robes. This haori is left open, and worn over the standard white obi that holds his zanpakuto. Displayed on the back of his haori is the 6th division insignia.
When Byakuya travels off to the mortal realm, he does not wear his white haori, however retaining the rest of his shinigami clothing. Although, during rare times that he must go to the mortal realm, Byakuya wears much more casual clothing. Generally in this gigai form, you'd see that he easily could pass off as a young businessman. He'll typically wear a white or black suit accompanied with either a tie of the opposite color or will wear the shirt with some buttons undone at the top. He doesn't settle for anything less than formal, as this is one of the ways to indirectly denote his ever-remaining regality to the rest of the world.
Zanpakutō: Senbonzakura
Senbonzakura translates to Thousand Cherry Blossoms
In its sealed state, Senbonzakura does not seem signifigantly different to the average zanpakuto population's appearance. As the majority of shinigami's zanpakuto are, Byakuya's is a katana. It doesn't look all too special compared to other zanpakuto, only unique in its crossguard and hilt. The crossguard of Senbonzakura is a square shape rather than circular and it joins at four places with another square that is around the hilt and resembles a four pane window. The hilt is also quite regal, being a royal purple in color with golden diamonds lining down the sides.
Shikai:
Unsealing Incantation: Chire (Scatter), Senbonzakura
In order to activate shikai, Byakuya holds his sealed form of Senbonzakura vertically while speaking the trigger command," Chire", which translates to 'Scatter' in the english language. At this time, the blade shatters into 10,000 slender blades. The Senbonzakura is what one might call a "beautiful zanpakuto" upon its release. The thousands of miniscule blades that make up the shikai form of the zanpakuto are almost too small to see with normal eyes. However, sunlight reflects on every last blade in a way that makes the blades appear as the pink petals of a cherry blossom tree.
These blades, or 'petals', are under Byakuya's complete control. He can control every last one with his mind, making it ideal for shredding opponents at will whether they're distanced or close to him. Thus, he is able to almost any defence with his shikai form. These petals typically attack all at once. With the more swift opponents, he is left another option. By directing the petals with his hands, he can make them move almost twice as fast as they do when directed by his mind alone.
Bankai:
Byakuya's bankai has several forms, achieved by arranging the blades in different patterns. They are activated by saying the name of the technique followed by the name of his bankai. Each form presents a different advantage, such as increases offense at the expense of defense.
Senbonzakura Kageyoshi
Translation: Thousand Cherry Blossoms' Grim Scenery
This is the first form of bankai. It is extremely similar to his shikai, however being a generally much larger version. Byakuya drops his sword to activate it, and in turn the zanpakuto passes through the ground. Next, two rows of giant blades rise up from the ground. Then, the blades scatter into the much smaller 'petals' again, though this time they are far larger in number than the shikai. This time around with bankai, there are millions of petals, enough for Byakuya to use them offensively and defensively at the same time. He commonly forms them into large masses of blades to crush opponents. Like with his shikai, its attack is triggered with the phrase "chire".
Senkei
Translation: Scene of the Massacre
This form of bankai unites the petals back into complete swords the size of Byakuya's sealed zanpakuto, into four rows around him and the opponent. In this form, Byakuya abandons the defense potential of his many blades and concentrates on killing the enemy. While Byakuya can control these swords as he does his regular blades, he usually attacks with just one in hand. All the blades that he does not hold in hand glow magenta. After immobilizing an opponent, he can call in the other blades to hit them while they're trapped. He can also use all the blades at once for one immensely powerful strike.
Gokei
Translation: Pivotal Scene
This aligns every blade in a spherical formation around his opponent, which then collapses into them from every possible angle, leaving no blind spots and no chance to escape.
Shukei
Translation: Final Scene
As the name suggests, this is the final bankai form for Byakuya. He combines every last petal blade together into a singal sword to drastically increase the cutting power. The blade becomes a white for the new name "Hakuteiken" (White Emperor Sword). He also gains pure white wings and a halo-like circle in the back, all formed from reiatsu. With this last form, the battle will most likely be due to end with one last attack.
Kidō:
Byakuya has also displayed knowledge of high level kido spells, able to cast spells up to number 81 without the incantation.
Shunpo- to step from one spot to another by means faster than the eye can follow. Taught by Yoruichi, two of his favorite techniques using shunpo are:
Utsusemi (cicada)- to move out of harms way while leaving an afterimage behind
Senka (Flash Blossom)- a flash step combined with a spin to quickly move behind the enemy, followed by a strike aimed to destroy the saketsu chain and the hakusui soul sleep with a combination of two quick thrusts.[
--Bakudo--
1. Restrain- Locks a target's arms in place behind their back.
4. Crawling Rope- An energy rope entangles a target's arms.
9. Strike- Engulfs a target in red light, completely paralyzing them.
61. Six Rods Prison of Light- Summons six thin, but wide, beams of light that slam into a target's midsection, holding them in place. It also appears to inhibit general movement to a degree, as Byakuya used it to prevent Rukia from moving her sword without directly binding her arms.
75. Quintet of 1 kan Iron Pillars- Summons five incredibly tall and thick pillars to pin a target to the ground.
81. Splitting Void- Creates an energy barrier in the form of a rectangular wall. According to Byakuya, it is capable of stopping destructive spells up to #89.
--Hadou--
1. Thrust- Pushes the target away from the caster.
4. White Lightning- Fires a concentrated bolt of lightning from the caster's forefinger.
31. Shot of Red Fire- Fires a ball of red energy at a target.
33. Blue Fire, Crash Down- Fires a burst of blue spiritual energy at a target in a similar manner to 31, but over a wider area and with more power.
54. Abolishing Flames- Fires a blast of purple spiritual energy that will incinerate a target completely when it makes contact.
63. Thunder Roar Cannon- Fires a massive wave of yellow energy at a target.
63. Twin Lotus Blue Fire, Crash Down- Essentially a doubled version of #33, this spell fires two shots of blue fire with greater potency than the single-shot variety.
Personality:
As the acting head of Kuchiki clan, Byakuya looks and acts as a nobleman-- just as it is expected from him. He's very serene and apathetic to others, acting in an aristocratic manner. He shows little to no emotion, so it's difficult to determine what's going on inside that head of his. However it might be that he acts ice cold to the surface, and regal through and through, Byakuya actually cares for and protects those he cares about. His cold and indifferent attitude is even used when around his own family.
Kuchiki Byakuya, however having slightly changed after Rukia's "almost" execution, is a very lawful, honorable man. He does not retain as much belief in following the rules as he used to, but he didn't lose much of it. The most he would go against the law for would be to protect Rukia, the so-called "pride of the family", a nickname given from Byakuya himself. There is practically no one else he would do this for, and now that she is gone, there is no one, period.
In the same way his spiritual pressure sometimes weighs down the people around him, the narcissistic attitude that seems forever flowing from Byakuya is extremely impressive, yet at the same time, so obviously false. True, Kuchiki Byakuya is a narcissist. After all, he's a Taichou who is the head of a Noble clan. But beneath it, there is a quiet and modest side of Kuchiki that he just can't show. This is the way Kuchiki Byakuya functions. His exterior is cold, uncaring and absolutely frigid. But beneath it all, he has compassion.
Byakuya has another side to him as well. This is the side that comes out in the midst of battle. It is very much like his attitude outside battle, but with one key difference. Byakuya's cold attitude stops there, at simply frigid, but in battle, it drops below zero. What was once simple indifference becomes an intense, analytical intelligence that is rivalled by few and surpassed by none. Once battle comes into the sights of Byakuya, immediately that cold, indifferent exterior grows. The entire situation confronting him can be weighed and measured in seconds, and immediately Byakuya forms his strategy. Battle, to Kuchiki Byakuya, is all about strategy. With the power he holds, Byakuya does enjoy battle. But he would never seek it for the simple thrill of fighting. Training is training. That's a different matter entirely. That can be sought not for the joy of fighting, but for the sake of gaining the strength and power one needs. But Byakuya only fights when its true combat. Where its all for the sake of living and protecting those you hold dear to yourself.
History:
Byakuya Kuchiki, the 28th heir to the noble Kuchiki clan elite, was born January 31st as a child in Seireitei. He often played games of tag with the young Shihouin Yoruichi, often using shunpo to play. However, he claimed that he never had beaten her. His senpai was Jushirou Ukitake, one of the first students from the Shinigami Academy to graduate and become a taichou in the Gotei 13. Not much else is known about his childhood.
He became a taichou during the same time Ichimaru Gin, who would often start pointless conversations with Byakuya during times when they crossed paths. One day, he met a woman named Hisana, who was a commoner from Inuzuri, one of the poorest districts of Rukongai. He had fallen in love with her and later married her. This, however, was a rule of the family that he had broken. Not long before her passing away, Byakuya had promised her that he would find and protect her younger sister Rukia, whom she had abandoned at a young age. Hisana also asked of him to never tell Rukia that she was her sister, because she told him that she was not worthy of being called an older sister after abandoning Rukia as an infant.
One year later, when Rukia had entered the academy, Byakuya had found and immediatly taken her into the Kuchiki clan. This was yet another family rule that he had broken, however he had respected his wife's last wishes. Later on, he had sworn on his parents' grave that he would never break another rule, no matter what. As a result, he, though entirely apathetic on the surface, is actually deeply conflicted with the matter of Rukia's execution. Should he intervene, it would require breaking the promise to his parents and the rules again; but should he do nothing he would fail to fulfill the last promise he made to his dying wife to protect Rukia as his own sister. This troubled Byakuya enough for him to do something even more ironic than expected -- he broke both promises to his wife by refusing to save Rukia, and by telling her that she was Hisana's biological younger sister during treatment of his battle wounds. Afterwards, Byakuya's attitudes toward Rukia changes significantly. He is seen to care for Rukia in an indirect manner and displays a new view on the idea that the law is never perfect. It is known and spread by many, that Byakuya is probably the most powerful out of all the past leaders of the noble clan.
When the Bounto later prove to be a threat toward Soul Society, Byakuya takes part of the problem into his own hands. He uses the Kuchiki's records to gain information on this soul-eating race for General Yamamoto. Byakuya, aiding Rukia in her battle with Yoshi, attempts to seek out the Bount leader Jin Kariya. The two meet, and engage in a battle that is interrupted by Ichigo and, later, Rantao. He watches Ichigo's battle with Kariya with full confidence in Ichigo, because he himself knows just how strong the boy is.
After the Bount problem comes to an apparent end, Byakuya returns his attention to the arrancar army controlled by the former 5th division taichou, Aizen. He retrieves Toshirou Hitsugaya's team on General Yamamoto's order, but later he secretly allows Rukia and Renji to assist in Orihime's rescue. He reasons that he was only ordered to bring them back to Soul Society and that what they chose to do afterwards was none of his concern. This is one of the examples that show that he has slightly begun to grow apart from his lawful self. He later saves Rukia from the 7th espada, Zommari Leroux. After a quick clash using their speed, in which Byakuya is proven superior, Zommari releases his zanpakutô and takes control of Byakuya's body parts. When Byakuya severes his left leg and arm tendons to negate the effect, Zommari turns his attention to Rukia, taking control of her body and forcing her own zanpakuto to her neck. Byakuya uses a binding spell (Bakudo #61) to prevent Rukia's movement, then activates his bankai, engulfing Zommari with the millions of blades it creates. Zommari survives the attack, and attempts to counterattack, but is unsuccessful, and is soon killed by a single strike from Byakuya's blade.
There then came a time that Byakuya would dread. This was the time when Rukia and her friends had sacrificed themselves to ceate a protective barrier to keep Hueco Mundo invaders from causing trouble in Soul Society and the Mortal Realm. The news came to him with mized emotions. He felt pride for his adopted sister and her friends for doing such an honorable act, and at the same time a shred of sorrow for the "pride of the family", a nickname he had given to Rukia himself, to have died. A time of peace had come over them, for nearly 50 years. The Gotei 13 had disbanded, but Kuchiki Byakuya was not that naive. He kept a watchful eye around Seireitei and sometimes Rukongai. He kept his powers intact so that they could be put to use when the barrier would finally subside. Peace didn't last forever. He had faith in the group, but it did not mean their powers would one day die down.
When the newly-formed divisions had made up the new Gotei 13, Byakuya had rejoined and taken up his former spot as the Taichou of 6th division. This time around, he knew, the arrancar would've gotten stronger. He knew of the suspicions going round about a traitor in the Gotei 13, but he would not suspect anything until he knew enough facts to support. He knew that another war would come sooner or later. And this time- he was much more prepared. This time he'd give determination to defeat his foes and keep Soul Society peaceful and lawful while he would remain the noble 6th division taichou.

And this time- he was much more prepared. This time he'd give determination to defeat his foes and keep Soul Society peaceful and lawful while he would remain the noble 6th division taichou.

It was raining somewhat hard today...there wasn't a tad bit of blue in any parts of the usually open skies. No voices were heard for miles, just the enviroment doing its part. Occasional footsteps, breathing, rustling of the leaves, and the drops of liquid hitting something. No birds chirping today. Though perhaps, all these sounds could rather not be heard, for the will to give even the slightest amount of concern had been lost with the rain.
Senrimaru stood 5 feet from the edge, without fear, without any emotion. Blank. Nothing. No emotions whatsoever. Her immense wounds from her initial battle with her sensei after 60 long years were not healed, clearly visible to be all bandaged up. It had only been at least 2 days or so, maybe a week tops. Normally, she would not allow herself to think so low as to stand there in the rain, in WATER, her own weakness. Today was different. Despite weakening with every drop, she was still a daiyokai level crossbreed. Anyhow, there was no time to care. Her head slightly hung low. Not one person could be able to define the looks of her face in the current position, from any such angle...except the front...though no one was there.
The cat-dragon crossbreed did not seem to have much emotion. One of her great inner skills- hiding her true self from the world. Even now, Senri was in deep thought. She was actually upset...though having mixed emotions. Undefined. Why couldn't she figure out how she was feeling. Thoughts of Shigure-sensei rushed through her mind, until she had finally decided upon clearing them to think of how it was when she came to be at the Sengoku Jidai...on Earth, where she was unknown to most others. From the begnning, she had met Sango and later the rest of the group. Those were happier times, but happy was never really a fitting word for Sen, on the account of anything at all. New thoughts came soon afterward, about the fact that she was revived and so easily evading death without intention of to do so. She had been give a second, or rather say 3rd chance at life. She hated it! Why couldn't she just die already?!
'Why...why am I still here? Why am I still alive?', those questions now sat there, lingering in her mind. When would the mental questions end? When would she think happy thoughts? Perhaps in death...perhaps in death would be the only thoughts of happiness would ever arise for her.
'Even you...Shigure-sensei...even you opposed.'
She inhaled and exhaled a deep, resentful breath. Footsteps were approaching. And closing in quickly. No fear, not a slight bit anxious was Senrimaru, the 'demon who brings death', accordingy to her homelands. She had lost a mere portion of her powers, not much though. It had only started raining. The demon who hates rain would be joined by a new presence whether she liked it or not.
Senrimaru knew at once who it was, had she ceased to pay much attention to her senses for that short time she was in deep thought. A panting romanization of her name came to be...the voice was familiar, the scent was familiar. Rose, her younger sister-in-law. She stood there stiff for a moment, before she slowly turned to face her. Anyone could see it...the mournful look in her eyes was worse than usual. Her voice was solemn as usual, so that didn't change. She looked like she was about to cry, but she was holding back. Senri hadn't truly cried for years. Few tears shed time and again, but that was it. Her face looked a little pale.
"Rose-chan...what are you doing out here, in the rain?", she asked softly, giving her a weak smile. "It isn't good for your health, you know. You must like to see me, huh? No matter, you're dear to me oh so much. Come, I wanted to ask you something."
